FOUR LESSONS TO LEARN FROM MY SILLY SPORTS MISTAKES

Welcome back to the ‘INSPIRING LESSONS SERIES’ where I discuss various basic fundamentals of sports and fitness often ignored in the dust.

I am not going to provide you with some handy tips or list of catchy ideas to implement but a story of mistakes that I and YOU commit every now and then.

If those failures of mine provide you with even one change into your life in general, MY MISSION IS ACCOMPLISHED…

For the sake of my introduction, I had been a marathoner, long-distance cyclist, swimmer & gym buddy nowadays. Having tasted all the waters, I duly understand the agony of sports injuries that a passionate athlete and any person has to go through…

That said, I had a passion for sports right from childhood but couldn’t bring out for reasons which even I am still not able to find…

So, I exploded all of a sudden one morning (Though, now I wish not…. ) and wake up like a superman and decided to participate in a 10k running event in a nearby sports facility.

Taken wrong decision by becoming a superman

Ghosh, it was like driving the car without knowing how to hold the steering. GOT a BIG BIG BLOW DIRECTLY RIGHT ON MY FACE

Those were my high school days… with only one week left before the final event and that too without any prior experience and practice went straight into the event.

GUESS what happened! You guessed it right! I came back literally crippling.

It took me 15 minutes to reach my home through two stairs ( which otherwise used to get covered in hardly 2 minutes).

To add to this, the time to travel those stairs kept increasing with passing days. And finally, after two weeks of regretful yet courageous decision (which I believe now), I decided to quit sports as it was not my cup of tea…

OHH… IT WAS ONLY AFTER JUST TWO WEEKS OF MY FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH SPORTS…

Why should you care about my personal journey? Isn’t it…

But there are always some takeaways from other people’s life no matter how ordinary they seem.

Well, there are some takeaways for you as well from my story…

  1. Never ever drive a car when you even don’t know how to ignite the engine –

We as humans, always have a tendency to look for the easiest ways to accomplish the task and we may miss some critical milestones to regret later in life.

Ideal fitness journey vs my journey where i skipped critical milestones

  1. Make it a habit to read manuals before exploring new gadget

Personally, I am a huge advocate of this point. Whenever, we purchase a new mobile, laptop, sports watch, fitness band, we always directly start exploring the options inside the gadget while throwing the manual away (not even in dustbin) never to be found later.

And then keep on googling and doing forum searches to find the solutions to minor issues every now and then.

It keeps you bothered so much and wastes your precious time including some hidden features you may never observe.

BEFORE CHOOSING ANY SPORT EVENT OR NEW FITNESS REGIME, give yourself a few days to understand the pro and cons including some research online for kind of preparation needed.

  1. Patience is love –

Nothing in this world shall fall for you except some fool though, that too in a matter of a few days, weeks, months or even years.

Patience is the key when it comes to fitness and all other subjects as well. You don’t get graduated in the mother’s womb.

Cuddle yourself, have the fun, polish every season with frequent breakdowns in years to come and learn to ride like a pro and become a true warrior…

  1. Follow ‘R’ religiously from ‘SMART’

Some of you might already be knowing about the concept of SMART goals where S means Specific, M means Measurable, A means Achievable, R means Realistic, T means time Bound… I hope you understood my point…

CONCLUSION –

After having you just read the four lessons you can learn my silly mistakes, I conclude and warns you against TAKING such a decision as mine which may disrupt your first impression so badly that it may take you years to even muster the courage to come back…

FOR ME, it also took several years to try my hand again in sports but to fail again which is again a different story to be told later…

Read an interesting article about can we workout without any goals, Is it ok…?

How’s the story, share your own failures and proudly share with others to inspire others...
